
Ducks Defeat Portland, 6-1, on Friday Night

EUGENE, Ore. - The Oregon women's tennis team captured its second 6-1 decision of the day, this time defeating in-state rival Portland on Friday night at the Oregon Tennis Complex. The Ducks knocked off Idaho by the same score in the morning match.
Pavlina Smatova had the strongest outing of the evening, with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 showing at No. 2 singles. She also won at doubles, 8-5, with partner Stephanie Macfarlane.
Carmen Seremeta was also tough for the Ducks, winning 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 at No. 1 singles. She also won at doubles, 8-6, with partner Claudia Hirt.
Oregon freshmen Trudie du Toit and Madelie Janse van Rensburg stayed perfect in their collegiate careers, winning both their singles matches against UP.

No. 1 UO Carmen Seremeta/Claudia Hirt vs. UP Megan Sporndli/Stephanie Fuchs (Oregon wins, 8-6)

taking the doubles point for the second time today, the Ducks will head
into the singles portion of tonight's match-up with Portland up 1-0. Clearly the presence of former Duck Anna Powaska has helped Oregon jump out to the early lead.
SINGLES
No. 1 Seremeta vs. Spornadli (Oregon wins, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1)

the score at 2-2 ... 6:42 - The score is still tied up, but now at 3-3

6:37 - Ceci is struggling at No. 2 singles, falling down 3-0 to start her first set of the evening ... 6:44 - Ceci is on the board with the score now at 3-1 ... 6:49 - Olivos is slowly but surely working her way back into the match, cutting the UP lead to 3-2 ... 6:58 - After a pair of painstakingly long points, Pflibsen has rattled off two quick games to take a 5-2 lead in the first set ... 7:03 - This is turning out to be a very tight singles session, as Olivos' 6-2 first set loss gives both Portland and Oregon three first frame winners ... 7:18 - Head coach Paul Reber sat down with Ceci after her first set loss and it appears whatever coach said has worked, as Olivos is now up 3-0 in the second set and surging ahead ... 7:21 - Make that a 4-0 lead for Olivos, a third set seems inevitable ... 7:28 - Now that is what I call a comeback! 6:34 - Make that a 4-1 lead for Oregon's super frosh ... 6:51 - When she has to range far to her left or right, Madelie has a knack for lobbing difficult balls high into the air in order to give herself time to reset - it makes for some long points but she never seems to be very far out of position or caught off guard ... 7:00 - Madelie earns the cheers from the crowd (which includes the entire men's team) as she earns her fifth point of the first set, 5-2 ... 7:04 - Just a few minutes later, Janse van Rensburg ices the win, 6-2 in the first set ... 7:23 - The second set seems to be playing out in similar fashion, with Madelie currently up 2-1 ... 7:43 - Madelie still has a one point lead, but the score now reads 4-3 ... 7:51 - Madelie is the first player to win on the left side of the Oregon Tennis Complex, with the three right side matches ending earlier ...
