Ducks Struggle Against No. 6 Ranked Bears

Eugene, Ore.,- The Oregon women's tennis team fell to the no. 6 ranked California Bears 6-1 Friday afternoon outside on the student tennis courts.
Senior Anna Powaska and freshman Celine Rolly stepped up for the Ducks in doubles play and came away with a victory in the no. 1 spot against the 20th ranked doubles team Susie Babos and Stephanie Kusano. Rolly and Powaska defeated the pair 6-5 (7-0).
Seremeta and Hirt were defeated 8-3 in the no. 2 spot by Marina Cossou and Claire Ilcinkas. Bojana Bobusic and Cristina Visico closed out the doubles point for the Bears after an 8-3 victory over Ana Cecilia Olivos and Stephanie Macfarlane.
Carmen Seremeta made a statement on the no. 2 court as she defeated no. 16 Susie Babos in a heated match. Seremeta lost the first set 5-7 but came back with an upset win in the next set 6-4 and went 10-5 in a tiebreak.
Claire Ilsinkas of Cal defeated Stephanie Macfarlane 6-1, 6-1 on the no. 4 court giving the Bears a 2-1 advantage. Next to finish up was Claudia Hirt who fell to Rachael Dillon 6-2, 6-0.
Finishing up third in singles play was Celine Rolly. She played against no. 12th ranked Marina Cossou in the no. 1 spot but was defeated 6-1, 6-3.
Anna Powaska battled on the no. 3 court but Cristina Visico came out on top winning the match 6-3, 6-3.
The Ducks next face no. 5 ranked Stanford Saturday afternoon outside on the student tennis courts at 12 p.m.
