Eugene, Ore.,-- The women's tennis team took another two losses on the road this weekend up in Washington, where they fell 4-3 to Washington State Friday Feb. 29 at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse and were defeated by the Washington Huskies 6-1 Saturday afternoon in non conference matches.
The No. 46 ranked Ducks (5-6) have struggled on the road thus far this season going 0-4 on their two trips.
“We certainly had our chances this weekend.,” head coach Paul Reber said. “We just didn't capitalize on the opportunities when they were there.”
The Huskies battled with the Ducks today coming away with the doubles point after Ardies/Simpson defeated Rolly/Macfarlane and Chan/Anonsen beat Powaska/Cavan. Claudia Hirt and Carmen Seremeta were last to finish up but came away with a victory after defeating Malovic/Radunovic.
“Claudia [Hirt] got her first win in doubles this weekend which is a positive for us, “Reber said. “She just keeps getting better and better which will definitely pay off for us later in the season.”
Singles handed the Huskies a team victory winning five out of the six matches. In the No. 1 spot freshman Celine Rolly was defeated in the clinching match by Venise Chan in two sets 7-5, 6-1.
Junior Ana Cecilia Olivos battled it out today against Tara Simpson taking the match to three sets. Simpson, however came away with the victory going 6-0, 5-7, 10-2. .
Carmen Seremeta showed off her skill this weekend winning both her singles matches. Seremeta beat Joyce Ardies in two sets 6-4 and 6-3 giving the Ducks their only point in the match.
It was a disappointing 4-3 loss for Ducks against Washington State Friday afternoon. After WSU took the doubles point, the Ducks' three wins in singles wasn't enough to beat the Cougs.
Carman Seremeta took her first win of the weekend when she defeated Ekaterina Kamendova 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in the No. 3 spot.
In the No. 5 spot Ana Cecilia Olivos beat Bianca Selaru in two sets 7-6 (3), 6-0.
Freshman Stephanie Macfarlane had a heated match verse Alexandra Cekic in three close sets but Macfarlane came away with the victory going 6-7 (7-1), 6-2, 7-5.
