EUGENE, Ore. - The Oregon women's tennis team loss 4-3 to Saint Mary's at the Student Tennis Center late Friday afternoon. The Ducks just didn't have it today, and it showed with their frustration on the court. Once again the Ducks did not help themselves losing the doubles point. The loss snapped the team's three game winning streak, and is their second of the season.

The doubles point was won by Saint Mary's sweeping all the three. At the No. 2 Marah Calvo and Stephanie Ordoveza of SMC defeated Anna Cecilia Olivos and Carmen Seremeta 9-7. Ordoveza was able to control much of the match with the spin she put on the ball being left-handed. Alex Poorta and Claire Soper defeated Anna Powaska and Siobhan Cavan 8-6. The Ducks also loss the No. 1, with Jessie Hoath and Nienke Strijbis defeating Celine Rolly and Stephanie Macfarlane 8-3.

Oregon came in to the singles match with Anna Powaska and Stephanie Macfarlane both undefeated. Powaska was moved up to play in the No. 2 spot, and Macfarlane also moved up to No. 4 because of Olivos taking not competing today in singles. Powaska ended up losing to Alex Poorta 6-3, 7-5, and Macfarlane also ended up losing 6-3, 6-0 to Marah Calvo. Coach Paul Reber commented on his move by saying “You need to reward the kids when they are playing well, and I thought Powaska played extremely hard, and it was just two players playing at a very high level.”

Celine Rolly, playing at her usual No. 1, won 6-1, 6-1 against Jessie Hoath. Carmen Seremeta also won convincingly against Claire Soper, winning 6-0, 6-2. Also, Mimi Songsermsawas loss to the crafty-lefty Stephanie Ordoveza 6-1, 6-2. Siobhan Cavan ended the night with a long fought victory over Nienke Strijbis 6-4, 6-7, 1-0 [10-5]. Cavan never gave up after Strijbis came back to take the second set, and later went on to take the match.

Oregon's next match comes Sunday at 11 a.m. against the University of Pacific.
