Oregon Holds Off Longwood, 11-8

EUGENE -- Alison Leiner had four goals and an assist and Jen May tallied three goals with an assist as the Ducks won their third straight game, 11-8, over Longwood Thursday night at Pape' Field.
The Ducks are undefeated on their homestand and off to the best start in program history at 6-3, while the Lancers fall to 0-5 on the year.
Once again, the Ducks opened the game quickly, jumping out to a quick 5-1 lead in the first 15 minutes. Senior transfer Brooke Dieringer got the Ducks ion the board first thanks to Leiner's assist, but the Lancers would answer 35 seconds later with the tying goal.
Oregon would then reel off four straight goals, as May would put two in the back of the net, assisted by Theresa Waldron and Kate Fleming, before Ilsa van den Berg and Leiner would both score on free position shots.
Michelle Owen broke up the run for the Ducks at the 16:06 mark, but Oregon would score two goals ten seconds apart in the 14th minute as May once again got a shot past Longwood goalkeeper Jennifer Holliday and then would take the draw control and speed down the field before passing it to Lindsay Killian for the breakaway goal.
At 7-2, the lead seemed comfortable for the Ducks but it was anything but safe as the Lancers put three in the back of the net in the next five minutes to cut the Oregon lead to 7-5.
Leiner bookended the half with goals at the 1:09 mark in the first half and the 21:35 mark of the second half as both teams came out playing good defense and opportunities were few and far between.
Longwood would cut the Oregon lead to as few as one as the Lancers made a three goal run of their own, complimented by the exceptional goalkeeping of Holliday, who had 16 saves on the night as Oregon outshot Longwood, 35-21.
Leiner would tally her fourth goal of the night to right the ship for the Ducks and Kate Fleming would seal the victory with an unassisted goal wit 3:31 remaining.
Oregon's freshman goalkeeper Sam Debow kept her record as Pape' Field perfect as she tallied her third win at home, making eight saves.
The Ducks will next take on Colgate on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Raiders defeated the Vermont Catamounts, 18-10, in a neutral site match played at Pape' Field immediately before Oregon's match on Thursday.
Longwood will take on Vermont at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the last of the neutral site matches that Oregon is hosting this week.
