BURLINGTON, Vt. ? Jana Bradley netted a hat trick and eight different players scored, the fifth time in as many games Oregon has had at least six different scorers, to lead the visiting Oregon Ducks past Vermont, 15-7, at Moulton Winder Field on Saturday afternoon.
Oregon moves to 6-5 overall and 2-1 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation as it wraps up a three-game swing on the east coast, while Vermont drops its third straight game and falls to 5-4 on the year.
“We played a solid game and we were able to execute and take advantage of Vermont's mistakes,” head coach Jen Larsen said. “We played solidly on offense and we had a great, tenacious defense in front of Anna Poponyak, who played a magnificent game in net for us."
Ilsa van den Berg got the Ducks on the board first, converting an assist from Jen May two minutes into the contest. Ashleigh Wilson finished a free position shot four minutes later to knot the score up 1-1, but that's as close at the Catamounts would be the rest of the way.
Oregon rolled off five consecutive goals to take a 6-1 lead with 15:46 left in the first half. Vermont stopped the rally with three straight goals from Becky Kenison, Jennifer Maher and Wilson to cut the lead to two with 6:30 left in the half. Oregon responded by scoring three goals to close the half, including a tally by Erin Gaebe with six seconds left.
The Ducks continued to control the game in the second half, scoring five straight to push their lead to 14-4 with 7:01 left in the contest. Vermont closed out the game scoring three goals in final 6:21 of the contest.
Wilson led Vermont with three goals, while Maher added two and Kenison and Emilie Clark each scored once. Goalkeeper Meaghan Hanley made eight saves in the Vermont net.
Five other Oregon players scored at least two goals to go along with Bradley's hat trick and May finished with three assists and a goal of her own. Anna Poponyak made 16 saves in net for the Ducks.
The Ducks return to action Friday when they host Denver in an MPSF match-up beginning at 7 p.m., at Pap? Field.
