
Stanford too Much for Ducks, Wins 6-1

Two-time NCAA Champion Stanford was too much for the Ducks as they won, 6-1, Friday afternoon. The Ducks got one singles victory on the day as Dominika Dieskova crushed Amber Liu.
“Dominika's victory was big time to beat a two-time Individual NCAA champion, was just huge,” head coach Nils Schyllander said. “That was one of the biggest wins in Oregon history.”
Stanford won all three doubles matches to seal the point, Oregon got close at number two, forcing a tiebreaker when he team of Monica Hoz de Vila and Claudia Hirt, tied their match with Theresa Logar and Anne Yelsey at 8. Logar and Yelsey won the tiebreaker 7-1.
“Stanford showed why they haven't lost in two and a half years,” Schyllander said. “We were close in almost every match, I thought for awhile we might win, but they were just too tough.”
Oregon held their own against a tough Stanford team, but in the end was unable to come away victorious winning only one singles match. With the loss Oregon falls to 12-6 on the year and 1-3 in Pac-10 play. Stanford improves to 17-0 and 6-0.
The Ducks only win of the day came at the number one spot where No. 50 Dieskova rolled in defeating No. 15 Liu, 6-2, 6-2.
Oregon returns to the court Saturday when they face California, beginning at noon.
