Dieskova Beats Second Top-15 Opponent in Ducks Loss

EUGENE ? The University of Oregon's women's tennis team was unable to beat their second straight top-10 opponent as California looked sharp and executed defeating Oregon, 5-2, Saturday afternoon.
“We are just a couple of players short right now, we have girls playing out of position and we just have to make due,” Oregon head coach Nils Schyllander said. “We are getting closer though, I see it every match.”
The Ducks won two doubles matches on the day as Claudia Hirt and Monica Hoz de Vila, teamed up to defeat Stephanie Kusano and Bojana Bobusic, 9-7. They were joined in victory by Carmen Seremeta and Anna Powaska who won their match with Claire Ilcinkas and Cristina Visico, 8-6.
Oregon's only win in singles was a big one as No. 50 Dominika Dieskova beat No. 10 Suzi Fodor, for the first time in three tries this season. Dieskova won the first set, 6-4, before falling 7-6 in the second (7-4) in the tiebreaker. In the third set which was played as a 10 point super tiebreaker, the Oregon junior traded points with Fodor until 6-6, when she won four straight points to win the match.
“Dominika had perhaps the best weekend in the history of the program to do what she did this weekend,” Schyllander said. “These two wins are as big as any I can think of here at Oregon.”
Fodor marks the second-straight top-15 opponent to fall victim to Dieskova, joining Stanford's Amber Liu, whom Dieskova beat Friday.
