Ducks Crush Huskies

The University of Oregon women's tennis team overpowered Washington, winning, 6-1, Saturday at the Student Tennis Center.
The Ducks got off to a solid start as they finished the doubles point in less than an hour, winning all three matches.
The Ducks lost a combined six games in the doubles matches as Anna Leksinska and Claudia Hirt won their match 8-1, over Tara Simpson and Monica Kolbovic. Carmen Seremeta and Anna Powaska were also winners as they dropped Melinda Wong and Stephanie Svanfeldt, 8-3. Dominika Dieskova and Ceci Olivos also earned a win as they took down Victoria Brymer and Dinka Hadzic, 8-2.
In singles play the only Duck to lose on the day was Powaska, who fell in a tough three-set match at number three to Simpson. Powaska dominated the first winning, 6-1 before Simpson looked just as sharp in the second and won 6-2. The pair would fight the third set much closer and Powaska fell, 7-5.
Two other Ducks went to a third set as No. 50 Dieskova and Hadzic went three sets, Dieskova took the first set 6-2, fell 6-3 in the second and rallied to win the third, 6-2.
Also seeing a third set was Seremeta who fell behind early losing 6-4 to Svanfeldt, then took the next two, 7-5, 6-1.
Leksinska defeated Wong in straight sets, 7-6 (9-7), 6-0. Monica Hoz de Vila won a walkover when Kolbovic defaulted.
Oregon returns to action Friday when they face two-time defending national champion Stanford, beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the Student Tennis Center.
