Oregon was too much for Gonzaga brushing the Bulldogs aside with a quick, 7-0 sweep, Saturday morning.
Oregon wrapped up the doubles point winning two of three matches. The only loss for the Ducks came when Thomas Bieri and Fernando Freitas were unable to get past Gonzaga's Reid Arthur and Charles Adams, falling 8-5.
“We knew it was going to be a tough match and that we needed to come out focused,” Head coach Kevin Kowalik said. “They played better than we did at number two doubles, but fortunately we won the rest of the matches.”
Bieri and Markus Schiller gave the Ducks early singles wins to propel them to a 3-0 lead. The Ducks secured a win with Arron Spencer's straight sets win over Marco Pineda, 6-1, 6-1.
“We are still developing, I expect, I want us to be a fully developed team come April,” Kowalik said. “That is what I am looking for .”
The Ducks had the match won with Mike Myrhed and Eric Pickard still on the court. Myrhed was first to wrap up his match winning, 6-2, 7-5. The Ducks had Pickard left on the court with a 1-0 lead in the 10-point super tiebreaker.
Pickard kept the sweep alive wrapping up the tiebreaker, 10-7.
The Ducks will be back on the court beginning at 4 p.m., when they face Nevada.
