Ducks Dramatically Drop Denver, 4-3

Eugene, Ore. ? After a slow start which led to the loss of the doubles point, the University of Oregon Women's Tennis team rallied for a 4-3 victory over the University of Denver Saturday morning at the Student Tennis Center.
Dominka Dieskova and Ana Cecilia Olivos were the only pair to walk away with a win in doubles, cruising to an 8-1 victory, while Claudia Hirt and Anna Leksinka dropped their match 8-6 and Anna Powaska and Carmen Seremeta also lost a close match, 8-6.
“It was closer than it needed to be. We came out real flat in the doubles,” Said Coach Nils Schyllander. “I was really pleased with the way we started the singles.”
Seremeta quickly disposed of Rachel Sackmaster in the three position after a strong start, taking the first set 6-1 and then dominating the second as well, winning 6-3.
Next off the court was Hoz de Villa, who defeated Marisa Mechem in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
After losing her doubles match with Leksinka, Claudia Hirt walked away with a loss in her singles match also, 6-4, 6-4 to Lorinda Boothman.
Anna Powaska also struggled in her singles match, also falling 6-4, 6-4 to Annette Aksdal.
With the Ducks down 4-3, the match would come down to Dieskova at the top position and Olivos at the four position.
Dieskova was the first of the two to win her match, defeating Suzana Maksovic 7-5, 7-5 in the most hotly contested match of the day.
With the match now tied at 4-4, Olivos finished out a tough battle against Kyla Owinski, taking the first set 6-3 and then battling for the win in the second set, 6-3, to decide the dual match.
The Ducks next face Eastern Washington tonight at 6:00 at the Student Tennis Center.
