TEMPE, Ariz. - The University of Oregon volleyball team, fresh off its best start in 32 years, hit a bump in the road on Friday night with a 3-0 loss to Arizona State in the Pac-10 opener for both schools.
The Ducks (10-2, 0-1) hit a season-low .070, and would have had a negative percentage for the match, if not for senior Kelly Russell's .560 hitting night. The Sun Devils (6-5, 1-0) won their fifth match in six tries, cruising to wins of 30-21, 30-20 and 30-24.
Russell led UO with 15 kills and posted a double-double with a team-high ten digs.
Oregon proved to be its own worst enemy, committing 29 attack errors, eight service errors and two ball handling infractions, totaling 40 of ASU's 90 points over three games.
The Ducks will try to rebound on Saturday, when they face No. 15 Arizona (9-1, 1-0) at 7 p.m.
