TUCSON, Ariz. ? The No. 15 Arizona Wildcats were too much for the University of Oregon volleyball team to handle away from home, defeating the Ducks by a 3-0 count.
Oregon (10-3, 0-2 Pac-10) dropped its second conference match in as many nights, while Arizona (10-1, 2-0) recorded its second straight Pac-10 victory, winning 30-20, 30-19 and 30-25.
The Ducks played a stronger match than Friday's sweep at the hands of Arizona State, tightening up their overall attack. Oregon hit .200 for the match, a major improvement over its .070 percentage against the Sun Devils.
“We played better tonight, but Arizona played very, very well,” said first-year head coach Jim Moore. “We did some good things at the end, but we have to learn how to stay with Pac-10 competition every game and every match.”
Freshman Mira Djuric led the Ducks with 11 kills, and junior Kristen Bitter had ten kills and a team-high hitting mark of .467.
“We learned some things tonight, and had we played like this against Arizona State, the end result may have looked a little different,” Moore said.
The Wildcats, who hit .364 as a team, were led by Jennifer Abernathy's match-high 20 kills.
Oregon returns home to face No. 25 Cal on Thursday at Mac Court. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
