EUGENE, Ore. ? Senior outside hitter Jaclyn Jones led a strong and balanced attack as the Oregon volleyball team jumped the Southern Oregon Raiders, 3-0, Thursday at McArthur Court.
The Ducks (4-0, 0-0 Pac-10) remain unbeaten on the season under first-year head coach Jim Moore, winning by scores of 30-11, 30-21 and 30-20. SOU (5-1, 0-0 Cascade), the 11th ranked NAIA team in the nation, sputtered throughout the match offensively and hit a negative .021 for the match.
Jones had 11 kills in 21 attempts and made just two errors for a .429 attack percentage. Seven other Ducks registered multiple kills as all 14 UO players saw action for first time in 2005.
“Outside of a brief period in the second game, we remained focused as a team,” Moore said. “We played hard and with a lot of effort.”
Freshman Mira Djuric posted match highs of 12 kills and three solo blocks, and junior blocker Kristen Bitter hit .600 (6-for-10) with zero errors.
Another freshman, outside hitter Rachel Yurkovich, recorded the first kill of her career and made the most of her time on the court in Game 3 with eight swings. Yurkovich, who owns the national high school mark in the javelin, will also compete for the Ducks in track and field.
As a team, UO hit .281 and held a 49-23 advantage in kills. Oregon had 12 total blocks compared to five for the Raiders, and led in digs, 37-35.
The Ducks complete a five-match home swing on Tuesday, Sept. 6 against the University of Portland. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
