Lacrosse Grabs First Conference Win, Defeats Saint Mary?s, 16-8

MORAGA, Calif. ? The University of Oregon women's lacrosse team enjoyed its first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation conference win of the season, cruising past Saint Mary's, 16-8, Saturday. Oregon improves to 4-9 overall and 1-3 in MPSF conference play.
Freshman attack Lindsay Killian led the team with four goals and one assist. Killian stands fourth on the team with 20 goals. Seven other Ducks chipped in goals, including Theresa Waldron, Emily Fowler, Jen May, Kate Fleming and Jana Bradley ? all with two. Erin Gaebe and Emma Thorborg notched one goal apiece. Nine of the Ducks' 16 goals were assisted.
With the score tied 6-6 late in the first half, Fleming scored back-to-back goals to give the Ducks an 8-6 lead at halftime. The Ducks then opened the second half with an 8-0 run and held the Gaels scoreless until 4:04 remaining in the game.
"It took us a while to get our rhythm," said Oregon head coach Jen Larsen. "We made some great adjustments before the end of the first half and were able to come out on top."
Goalkeeper Louisa Dorsch led the Ducks with three ground balls, while May forced three turnovers. Waldron and Fowler led the way with two assists apiece.
The Ducks also defeated Saint Mary's earlier this season (3-20) in a non-conference game.
Up next, Oregon travels to the Bay Area to take on California, Sunday, at noon, in a MPSF conference contest.
