EUGENE,
The Beavers (9-11, 5-9 Pac-10) won 30-28, 30-22, 30-32, 21-30, 17-15, dashing the Ducks' (12-14, 1-13) hopes of earning a split in the season series.
The deciding game was a back-and-forth battle.
The two rivals traded points before a Duck attack error and Beaver block gave OSU the win.
The match was UO's second five-set conference loss in a row, which could be interpreted as a sign of improvement in the always difficult Pac-10.
“I don't know, maybe tomorrow I'll be able to look at it as a moral victory, but not right now,” said senior hitter Kelly Russell, who did not mask her disappointment.
Djuric had a match-high 26 kills and junior
OSU had 22 total blocks, led by Abby Windell and Katelyn Healy, who recorded 12 apiece. It was Windell and Healy who combined for the block at match point.
The Ducks countered with only seven blocks of their own in the five-set affair.
Brittany Cahoon paced OSU's attack with 19 kills, while hitting .359. Healy added 10 kills.
UO received a match-high 26 digs from freshman libero Katie Swoboda, and 12 apiece from Little and Russell.
The Beavers won the opening set in a close battle, out-hitting
Djuric led all players in the game with six kills and 11 attempts.
In the second stanza, the Beavers blanked the Ducks eight to zero on the block, and limited UO to 12 kills.
Game 3 belonged to the Ducks, who withstood a late OSU rally to prevail in extra points. UO hit .373 in the game, behind 10 kills and a .474 hitting percentage from Djuric.
Cahoon had eight kills on 11 swings, hitting a blistering .727 for the Beavers.
