LOS ANGELES ? The University of Oregon volleyball team ran into a hungry and determined No. 21 UCLA squad Friday night, falling in straight sets, 30-15, 30-23 and 30-24.
The Ducks (10-6, 0-5 Pac-10) got off to a poor start in Game 1 and never recovered against the host Bruins (8-5, 1-3), who earned their first conference win after starting Pac-10 play with three consecutive defeats for the first time in history.
UO freshman Mira Djuric led all players with 11 kills and 15.5 points, but the Oregon's other primary attackers all hit in the negative. As a team, the Ducks had 29 kills and 28 attack errors.
UCLA was much more efficient, peaking in Game 2, when the Bruins out-hit their opposition, .406 to .184. Nana Meriweather led the home side with nine kills on 14 swings (.643) with zero errors.
The Ducks will look to rebound on Saturday against No. 17 USC.
