Tennis Swept Up By Golden Hurricane

SAN DIEGO, Calif. ? The Oregon women's tennis squad ended its three-match winning streak, losing to Tulsa, 5-2, in a non-conference dual match. The loss drops the Ducks to 12-8 overall.
In so many cases, the team who grabs the doubles point has the obvious advantage entering singles play. Oregon took advantage of just that, sweeping all three doubles matches.
Positions No. 2 and No. 3 belonged to Ducks. Dominika Dieskova and Anna Leksinska continued to be the Ducks' most consistent doubles performers, taking down Tulsa's Lisette Pereria and Zoe Bugagiar, 8-3. The win moved the duo into a tie for 6th for single-season doubles wins at Oregon. Davina Mediburu and Ester Bak defeated Santie Delport and Kindsay Grimes, 8-4, at the No. 3 position.
At the No. 1 position, No. 49-ranked Daria Panova and Courtney Nagle defeated the Tulsa duo of Daniela Muscolino and Ilona Somers, 8-1.
Up, 1-0, the Ducks did not take advantage of the doubles point, losing five of six singles matches. At the No. 1 position, No. 75-ranked Muscolino defeated Oregon's No. 8-ranked Panova, 7-5, 7-6. The loss ended a six-match winning streak for Panova.
No. 58-ranked Dieskova was upended by No. 86 Somers in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, (10-4). At position No. 3, Courtney Nagle was defeated by Donata Majauskaite, 6-1, 7-5.
Position No. 4 and No. 6 also belonged to the Golden Hurricane. Mendiburu and Bak both lost in straight sets.
The lone singles win for Oregon was the sophomore Leksinska, who took down Timberly Greenly, 6-2, 2-6, 7-5.
"We had so much momentum after winning the doubles point," Oregon head coach Nils Schyllander said. "We just got out-played in singles. There were some tough weather conditions and we just couldn't adjust."
The Ducks returns to action on Saturday (April 3) when they take on host San Diego State, at Noon.
