Ducks Swept by No. 12 UCLA

EUGENE, Ore. - The University of Oregon volleyball team (9-9, 1-7) fell to .500 for the first time all season after losing to No. 12 UCLA, 30-16, 30-18, 30-18.
"You have to grab first-ball sideouts," Oregon head coach Carl Ferreira said. "If you do that you are able to string together multiple points. We were unable to do that, and unable to grab any momentum. We had a great week of practice and preparation, but we have to find a way to put points on the board."
The Ducks were led by junior outside hitter Kelly Russell, who notched a career-high 19 digs, en route to a double-double (10 kills, 19 digs). Russell was the lone Duck in double figures for kills.
Sophomore setter Heather Madison and senior libero Katie O'Neil posted 12 and 17 kills respectively. For O'Neil, it marked the sixth consecutive match with 10-plus digs.
UCLA (12-5, 5-3) was led by libero Chrissie Zartman who had a match-high 24 digs. As a team, the Bruins tallied 10 team blocks to Oregon's five.
The Ducks stay at home tomorrow (Fri., Oct. 22) when they play host to two-time defending national champ, No. 6 USC, at 7 p.m. at McArthur Court.
