Seventh-Ranked Stanford Defeats University of Oregon Volleyball In Three Games

STANFORD, Calif. ? Oregon junior outside hitter Lauren Westendorf and sophomore middle blocker Kelly Russell combined for 15 of Oregon's 30 total kills, but the duo were outmatched by No. 7 Stanford, who handed the Ducks a 30-10, 30-20, 30-20 loss in front of 1,035 fans at Maples Pavilion in Stanford, Calif., Thursday evening. With the win, Stanford secured its third straight 20-win season, improving to 20-6 overall, 13-4 Pacific-10 Conference while Oregon fell to 3-23, 0-17.

"I thought we started off very slow in game one," Oregon head coach Carl Ferreira said. "But in the second half of the match ? in games two and three ? I thought we played with maximum effort and got into a bit of a rhythm."

Erin Little, a freshman averaging 0.95 kills per game this season and a .125 hitting percentage, came off the bench and had seven kills while hitting .455 one week after posting eight kills versus Arizona State. Prior to her 15 kills in the last two matches, Little had not had a kill since Sept. 26.

"Erin did an exceptional job for us tonight," Ferreira said. "She helped us get going and really provided a spark."

Freshman middle blocker Sarah Mason contributed five kills and Jaclyn Jones, Kristen Bitter and Heather Madison added a kill each. Madison had 25 assists in her third collegiate start and also added five digs for the Ducks' defense.

Stanford was led by Ogonna Nnamani's 14 kills and .560 hitting percentage. As a team, the Cardinal hit .449 and had 11 blocks.

The Ducks conclude their season tomorrow vs. No. 9 California at 5:30 p.m. in Berkeley, Calif.
