
No. 9 California Tops Oregon Volleyball In Season Finale

BERKELEY, Calif. ? The University of Oregon volleyball team wrapped up its 2003 season with a 30-27, 30-11, 30-13 loss to No. 9 California at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley, Calif., Friday evening. Oregon finished the season 3-24, 0-18 while the Bears were 21-6, 12-6.
"I think we had the right frame of mind about how we wanted to finish the season," Oregon head coach Carl Ferreira said. "I'm not disappointed in anything my players have done, I know they have a bright future and they know they have a bright future as well."
Oregon sophomore middle blocker Kelly Russell led the Ducks in their final match, finishing with 11 kills and a .391 hitting percentage. Junior Lauren Westendorf added eight kills and sophomore Jaclyn Jones had five.
Defensively Russell, libero Katie O'Neil and freshman Kandice Feola led Oregon with six digs apiece.
The Bears were led by All-American Mia Jerkov, who had a match-high 15 digs and hit .500.
