
Men?s Tennis Wins Three But Falls From Tournament

FRESNO, Calif. ? The Oregon men's tennis team gets three wins in the quarterfinals of the consolation round at Bulldog Classic hosted by Fresno State. The tournament is being held at the Spalding Wathen Tennis Complex through Sunday.
After a tough start yesterday Sven Swinnen, Aaaron Spencer, and Eric Pickard battled hard to win the quarterfinals of the consolation round. Swinnen defeated Tyler Browne of California in a close match where Swinnen came from behind to win with a score of 2-6, 6-4, 6-2. Spencer defeated Ryan Edelfson of UC Santa Barbara 6-2, 7-6 and Pickard defeated Tim Welty of Saint Mary's 6-2, 6-7, 6-4.
However the trio couldn't keep the streak going and lost in the semifinals of consolation. Lennart Maak of Pacific defeated Swinnen in a close match 6-2, 3-6, 7-5. Adam Jooste of Nevada beat Spencer 6-1, 6-2 and Steve Stupeka of Nevada defeated Pickard 6-4, 7-5.
"We played a lot beter today and are making some progress," said head coach Chris Russell. "We had a very productive day getting a lot of matches in."
Oregon will be the host of the ITA Regionals Friday October 17 through Monday October 20. The tournament will be held at the Student Tennis Center in Eugene.
