Michelle Tumolo officially joined head coach Katrina Dowd’s staff on July 5, 2016. A highly-regarded player and coach, Tumolo came to Oregon to help coordinate the offense.
Known for her dynamic attacking ability as a player, Tumolo helped the Ducks to a terrific offensive year in 2017. Oregon tallied 331 points, second-most in program single-season history, 214 goals and 117 assists, and ophomore Shannon Williams broke the UO single-season records for points (72) and goals (51). Junior Cambi Cukar was the quarterback of the offense with 42 assists, and she became Oregon’s all-time leader with 124 in her career. The Ducks finished the year 9-8 and was fourth in the conference at 5-3 to reach the MPSF Tournament.
Tumolo came to Oregon after three seasons as an assistant coach, spending 2016 with Syracuse, her alma mater, after two years at Florida. The Orange finished 2016 with 314 goals under Tumolo’s guidance, second-most in the nation, just one season after Tumolo helped Florida lead the NCAA in scoring with 15.52 goals per game.
Prior to joining the Gators as a coach in 2014, Tumolo enjoyed a decorated career as a player at Syracuse from 2010-13. Tumolo played in the Final Four three times in four seasons and, like Dowd, was a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award as college player of the year in 2012.
Despite having her senior season cut short due to injury in 2013, Tumolo finished her collegiate career with 141 goals and 137 assists, ranking in Syracus’s career top 10 for goals, assists and points. Her assist total ranked ninth in NCAA history at the time Tumolo wrapped up her career.
Tumolo also brought to Oregon experience as an attacker on the U.S. National Team, which she competed for prior to arriving in Eugene and has played for since 2010. Tumolo will compete with Block for Team USA at the 2017 World Cup.
