Returns for his third season for the Ducks in 2007-08, and has developed into a regional scorer on the track and is a Pac-10, Regional and NCAA Championships harrier veteran. Will again compete in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters on the track. Was tabbed one of UO's most improved runners in his first season for the Ducks in 2005-06. Attended University of Oregon two years prior and trained with the campus-affiliated UO Running Club under former legendary Duck women's coach Tom Heinonen. As a prep, was a multiple Idaho state track champion and a three-year qualifier, and also ran in the state cross country final twice. His twin brother Esteban is also a member of the Duck cross country squad, and they are one of three sets of twins on the men's cross country team.
Fall 2007: Competed for nation’s top harrier team in three varsity races. Helped spur team to Dellinger Invitational team victory with eighth-place individual finish (23:46) and subsequent #1 national ranking. Opened postseason with best-ever Pac-10 placing (21st, 23:39) in his third Pac-10 trip and second straight top-25 finish. During midseason, ranked fourth overall and third on team in the Mike Hodges Invitational (4 miles 19:37).
2006-07: Pac-10 / Regional Qualifier (5,000m). Made Pac-10 return in the 5,000m (13th, 14:40.95), three weeks after he ran a nearly 15-second personal best in the Oregon Invitational (second-section, 14:06.71). Altogether, raced seven times outdoors and indoors (Outdoors ? 1,500m 2; 5,000m 4; Indoors ? 3,000m 1). In cross country, stood top six for team in all four of his races, including his NCAA Championships debut (141st, 32:59). Scored his best Pac-10 placing (28th, 24:25) four weeks before. During regular season, ranked fifth for team champions in Bill Dellinger Invitational (19th, 23:51) and scored his highest career finish overall in the Mike Hodges Invitational (third, 18:58). Personal/Season Bests: Outdoors ? 1,500m ? 3:50.99, Oregon Preview, Eugene, Ore. (3/17/07); 5,000m ? 14:06.71 (PR), Oregon Invitational, Ore. (4/20/07). Indoors ? 3,000m ? 8:16.34 (PR), Husky Collegiate, Seattle, Wash. (2/10/07).
2005-06: Pac-10 Qualifier (10,000m). In his Pac-10 Championships track and field debut, ranked second on team in the 5,000m (18th, 14:47.82). At season's end, his outdoor 5,000m personal best (14:21.04) from late March ranked him third on the team behind a pair of All-Americans. Also broke 14:30 in the Pepsi Team Invitational (third, 14:29.88) the following week, after he entered the season with a previous 5,000m road race best of 15:11. At end of outdoor season, also lowered 1,500m personal best by 4.96 seconds over his preseason mark of 3:55.04 from 2005. Altogether outdoors, raced six times outdoors (5,000m-3, 1,500m-3). Indoors, raced two 3,000 meters races, and ran 8:20 or faster in both, and significantly faster than his previous best of 8:45.04. In cross country, thanks to his hard work in the summer of 2005, stepped in as team’s biggest surprise in his first collegiate season and ran in the Duck top five in all five contests. Was UO’s second finisher in the Pier Park Preview (second overall, 20:41) and Willamette Invitational (13th, 24:13). Stood fourth on unit in NCAA West Regional (40th, 31:19) and Pre-NCAA Invitational (132nd, 25:19), and fifth in the Pac-10 Championships (36th, 25:22). Personal/Season Bests: Outdoors ? 1,500m ? 3:50.08 (PR), Oregon Twilight, Eugene, Ore. (5/5/06); 5,000m ? 14:21.05 (then-PR), Stanford Invitational, Stanford, Calif. (3/31/06). Indoors ?
