Sophomore picks up lone team point in 4-1 loss to Bruins.
LOS ANGELES – Oregon sophomore Bridget Mihulka turned in her team-leading 13th singles win of the spring, but the 60th-ranked Ducks suffered a 4-1 loss at No. 18 UCLA Friday at Los Angeles Tennis Center.
Mihulka, a native of Victoria, Australia, snapped a three-match skid at the sixth spot in the lineup with her 7-5, 7-5 victory over the Bruins' Kayla Chung. Mihulka improved to 13-5 during the dual campaign, while recording three Big Ten wins.
UO went up against a UCLA lineup that featured the 29th-ranked doubles team in addition to two singles players ranked in the nation's top 50 in No. 17 Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer and No. 41 Mayu Crossley.
Junior Tilde Jagare and redshirt senior Olivia Symons owned a 4-3 lead over UCLA's top doubles tandem, but the match went unfinished when the Bruins clinched doubles point. Jagare went up against Lutkemeyer on centre court, her third straight against a ranked opponent and fifth time this season, falling in straight sets.
During singles play, the Ducks forced three sets into a tiebreaker, but lost in straight sets on courts one, two, and four. Despite facing 12 ranked opponents this season, including seven of eight in Big Ten play, Oregon has picked up at least one team point in every dual match this season.
As a team, Oregon boasts a 54-35 combined dual singles record to pair while going 32-16 in doubles play. The Ducks conclude their weekend trip to Los Angeles on Sunday at No. 12 USC (1 p.m.).
