Ducks Bounce Back With Sweep of Rutgers
03/08/26 | Women's Tennis
UO sweeps No. 63 Rutgers Sunday.
EUGENE, Ore. – Playing its fifth consecutive ranked opponent, and second straight to open Big Ten play, the Oregon women's tennis team turned in an empathic 4-0 sweep of 64th-ranked Rutgers on Sunday at the UO Student Tennis Center.
The win marked the Ducks' (9-4, 1-1) second over a ranked team this season, as it comes after consecutive heartbreaking defeats to top-50 foes. Oregon bounced back in a big way, winning three singles matches in straight-set fashion after easing to the doubles point to begin the day.
UO's No. 2 doubles team of Hinata Furutani and Juliet Santitto cruised to a 6-0 win before the doubles point was clinched by Patsy Daughters and Bridget Mihulka's 6-1 win on court three. Daughters and Mihulka played in just their third dual match of the spring together, and first since Jan. 24, while moving to 2-0.
Furutani and Santitto remained hot and picked up their sixth straight doubles victory together. They improved to 7-1 this spring and led Oregon to its 11th doubles point over 13 dual matches.
The Ducks turned in straight set wins on courts one, four and six for their first sweep in Big Ten play since joining the league.
Daughters earned UO's second team point with her 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 4, while Mihulka put the Ducks on the brink with her 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6. Mihulka collected her team-leading 10th singles win of the season.
Tilde Jagare, playing on center court, clinched the decisive fourth point with her 6-4, 6-3 win. Jagare completed an unbeaten weekend that included her first-ever ranked singles win on Friday, to push her spring record to 7-3.
After suffering a tight 4-3 loss at Rutgers a season ago, the Ducks evened the all-time series with the Scarlet Knights at a match apiece.
Saturday's match marked the 40th all-time meeting between the Ducks and Pilots, and seventh straight season the teams have played, with UO leading the series 39-1.
The Ducks are back at the Student Tennis Center to host Washington State on Friday (11 a.m.) and Washington on Saturday (12 p.m.).
