Crocker picks up three-set victory on Saturday.
EUGENE, Ore. – Facing its toughest test of the season, the Oregon women's tennis team went toe-to-toe with 17th-ranked Washington on Saturday, taking four of six singles matches to three sets before the Huskies came away with a 4-1 victory at the UO Student Tennis Center.
The Huskies (12-0, 3-0) marked the seventh consecutive match against the nation's top 70, as the No. 67 Ducks (10-5, 1-2) overcame a first-set loss in four singles matches to test their conference rivals.
Freshman Virginia Crocker, playing at the No. 3 spot in the lineup, overcame a 3-6 loss in her opening set and won the next two, 6-1, 6-1 to represent UO's lone point of the afternoon.
Facing a singles lineup that featured three UW players ranked in the latest ITA singles rankings, junior Tilde Jagare battled against No. 79 Erika Matsuda on centre court. Jagare fell in a tiebreaker in the first set before winning the second 6-4 when the match was decided.
Bridget Mihulka also split her first two sets but was unable to finish after Washington claimed its fourth team point of the day. Sophomore Patsy Daughters battled back to win her second set, but fell on court four 2-6, 6-1, 1-6.
Oregon dropped a tightly contested doubles point, just the third doubles point lost this season in 15 matches, falling on the top two courts.
As a team, Oregon boasts a 44-19 combined dual singles record to pair while going 25-9 in doubles play.
The Ducks head to the Midwest to take on Iowa on Friday (3 p.m. PT) and Nebraska on Sunday (9 a.m. PT).
