02/01/26 | Women's Golf
PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. – The Oregon women's golf team kicked off its spring season on Sunday at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge, and the Ducks sit in a tie for seventh place through 18 holes at Palos Verdes Golf Club.
Opening their spring at Palos Verdes for the fourth consecutive year, the No. 3 Ducks posted a 10-over 294 in round one to finish the day in a three-way tie for seventh with No. 13 Arizona State and SMU. No.23 UCLA leads the field at 2-under par, with No. 7 Texas A&M in second at 2 over.
Starting their day on the back nine, the Ducks' four counting scorers combined to shoot 1-under par with seven birdies and six bogeys through nine holes. Birdies were harder to come by after the turn, with Oregon's top four finishers shooting 11 over on the front side with just two birdies.
How it Happened: Tong An, Darae Chung and Kiara Romero each closed round one with a 2-over 73 to tie for the team lead, while freshman Sophie Han rounded out the counting scores with a 4-over 75. An, Chung and Romero will enter Monday's second round in a tie for 24th place overall.
Chung got off to a hot start for the Ducks, making birdie on two of her first six holes to go into the turn at 1 under. She made seven pars on the back side but also had a bogey and a double bogey to finish at 2 over.
An and Romero each shot even par through nine holes before going 2 over across the final nine to match Chung with 73s. Romero achieved a notable milestone with three birdies on the day, becoming the eighth player in program history to surpass 300 career birdies.
Han made back-to-back birdies on holes 15 and 16 en route to making the turn at even par but, like Chung, two tough holes on the front side of the course elevated her final score.
