SEASIDE, Calif. — The Oregon men's golf team shot 10-under in Monday's opening round of the Saint Mary's Invitational, finishing the day tied atop the team leaderboard with California and Washington.
Washington State sits one stroke back at 9-under, while Seattle U and Pacific round out the top five positions at 6-under. Competing in its largest tournament field of the season thus far with 18 teams, Oregon posted its lowest round of the season relative to par at 10-under.
Monday marked the third consecutive tournament in which Oregon has finished the opening round inside the top five, putting itself in contention early. The Ducks sat third after the opening round of the Vuori Invitational before finishing sixth. Oregon was also tied for fourth after the opening round of the Oregon State Invitational before a clutch final-round performance propelled the Ducks to their first tournament title since March 2025.
All four counting scores for the Ducks on Monday were at par or better, led by Sebastian Desoisa's 5-under 67. Returning to Oregon's lineup after missing the Oregon State Invitational to compete at the Spanish Open on the DP World Tour, the sophomore picked up where he left off, carding his lowest round relative to par this season and the eighth round in the 60s of his collegiate career to finish the day tied for fifth.
A preseason Big Ten Golfer to Watch, Desoisa has continued to put himself in contention early this fall. He opened the Vuori Invitational with a share of the first-round lead before finishing fourth for the second top-five finish of his collegiate career.
How it Happened
All four of the Ducks' golfers with counting scores started Monday in the red, as Sebastian Desoisa, Adam Anderson and Ramil Saelim each birdied the par-5 first hole, while Tim Chang added an eagle.
Desoisa made the turn tied for the individual lead and remained bogey-free through 15 holes, carding six birdies on holes 1, 2, 4, 7, 8 and 11 before recording his lone bogey of the round on the 16th. The sophomore finished the opening round tied for fifth at 5-under.
Anderson was 3-under through 10 holes before a double bogey on No. 11 and a bogey on No. 12 brought him back to even par. He immediately responded with a birdie on the 13th hole and added two more down the stretch, playing his final six holes at 3-under to finish tied for 11th.
Chang opened with an eagle on the first hole and overcame bogeys on holes 4 and 6 with birdies on the fifth and 12th. The junior played his final 12 holes bogey-free, posting matching 1-under scores on the front and back nine to finish tied for 17th at 2-under.
Saelim rounded out Oregon's counting scores with an even-par 72, carding four birdies in the opening round to finish the day tied for 32nd.
