Romero's Hot Finish Highlights Round Two

LAKE ELMO, Minn. – Junior Kiara Romero made four birdies and an eagle on the back nine on Tuesday en route to carding a 3-under 69 to lead the Oregon women's golf team in round two of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate Presented by 3M at Royal Golf Club.
The No. 2 Ducks closed the second round with a 2-over 290, a seven-stroke improvement from Monday's opening round. Oregon remains in sixth place in the 12-team field at 11 over, with No. 4 USC and No. 11 Wake Forest tied for the team lead at 1-under par.
Romero was joined under par on Tuesday by sophomore Tong An, who fired a 1-under 71. Romero and An are tied for 10th on the individual leaderboard at even par, seven strokes back of South Carolina's Eila Galitsky for the lead.
How it Happened: Romero was even on the front nine, making seven pars with a birdie at No. 2 and a bogey at No. 6. She opened the back nine with a bogey before catching fire with three consecutive birdies to get to 2 under.
After a double bogey at No. 15 brought her back to even, Romero made birdie on the par-3 16th and then carded Oregon's first eagle of the year on the par-5 17th to get to 3 under.
Romero has now shot in the 60s 25 times in 65 career rounds as a Duck while finishing par-or-better 51 times.
An opened her round with a bogey but was mistake-free the rest of the way, making birdie on two of her next three holes and then finishing with 14 consecutive pars.
An has made 28 pars through two rounds, tied for second-most in the field.
Sophomore Suvichaya Vinijchaitham came in with a 1-over 73 while matching Romero for the team lead with five birdies. She was 1 over on the front nine before shooting even par on the back side.
Freshman Sophie Han rounded out Oregon's counting scores with a 5-over 77.
