Ducks In Sixth After Opening Round Of Fall
09/08/25 | Women's Golf
LAKE ELMO, Minn. – The No. 2 ranked Oregon women's golf team is in sixth place through the opening round of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate Presented by 3M after shooting 9-over par on Monday in the Ducks' first action of the 2025-26 season.
Oregon was led by sophomores Tong An and Suvichaya Vinijchaitham, who both finished with 1-over 73s.
Defending national champion Northwestern leads the field at 1-udner par after 18 holes.
How it Happened: Oregon's four counting scorers combined to shoot 4 over on the front nine before going 5 over on the back. Vinijchaitham and junior Kiara Romero both made birdie on No. 18 to shave a pair of strokes off of the Ducks' final scorecard.
An was even on the front nine, opening with eight straight pars before answering a bogey at No. 8 with a birdie at No. 9. She was 1 under after carding another birdie at No. 11, but bogeys at 14 and 16 brought her in with a 73.
Vinijchaitham's day was the opposite of An, as the 2025 second-team all-American opened with three bogeys in her first six holes. Vinijchaitham got going with a birdie at No. 7 and proceeded to make par on the next 10 holes before finishing with a birdie on 18.
Romero, the No. 1 ranked amateur in the world and 2025 Big Ten Golfer of the Year, had an uncharacteristic day to open her junior season with a 3-over 75. Romero tied for the team lead with three birdies but also had six bogeys, shooting 75 or worse for just the seventh time in 64 career rounds.
True freshman Shyla Singh rounded out Oregon's counting scores with a 4-over 76 in her collegiate debut, and fellow freshman Sophie Han finished with a 6-over 78. Han was 5 over through her first two holes but proceeded to shoot just 1 over across her final 16.
