Ducks Host Portland in Home Opener
09/02/25 | Women's Volleyball
Wednesday’s match will be the first between Oregon and Portland since 2010.
EUGENE, Ore. – On the heels of an undefeated season-opening weekend, the Oregon volleyball team will play a pair at Matthew Knight Arena beginning with Wednesday's home opener against Portland. First serve is set for 6 p.m. (B1G+) on the Ducks' home floor.
Series History vs Portland
Oregon and Portland will be meeting for the 33rd time overall but for the first time since 2010. Oregon has won 14 of 16 series matches played in Eugene, and owns a 27-5 advantage in the all-time series. It will also be the first time the two teams play at Matthew Knight Arena.
Last Time Out
The freshman duo of Maria Tabacuks and Alanah Clemente combined for 27 kills in Oregon's sweep of Montana State (Aug. 31). Defensively, the Ducks held Montana State to a .109 hitting percentage with the help of 16.0 total team blocks. The UO offense hit .278 in the match and finished the three-match weekend hitting .288 as a team.
B1G First Impression
Alanah Clemente was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week after a standout performance during the season-opening EVEN Hotel Bobcat Invite in Bozeman, Mont. The Santa Clarita, Calif., native averaged 5.67 points per set and 4.83 kills per set, all while hitting .684 (29-3-38) over three matches. Clemente also tallied 1.67 blocks per set.
Blocking is Fun
Sophomore Iva Sucurovic had 12.0 total blocks in Oregon win over Montana State (Aug. 31), the most from an Oregon player since Ronika Stone—also with 12 blocks—in 2018. The Ducks combined for 16 total team blocks in the road sweep. Entering the week, Oregon is third in the Big Ten with 2.91 blocks per set.
Spreading the Wealth
The Ducks enter the week with three players averaging more than three kills per set: Alanah Clemente (4.83 k/s), Valentina Vaulet (3.64 k/s) and Maria Tabacuks (3.27 k/s). Vaulet had a team-high 17 kills in the 3-1 win over South Dakota (Aug. 29) in the Ducks' season opener.
Starts with a Serve
With her first service winner of the season, junior Valentina Vaulet registered her 100th career ace. She had three aces in that match, a 3-1 win over South Dakota (Aug. 29). Vaulet had at least one ace in each of the three matches during the season-opening weekend.
1K Program Watch
Oregon began the 2025 season just five shy of 1,000 program wins. With a 3-0 opening weekend, the Ducks' program record now sits at 998-796-19 (.556).
Up Next
Oregon's home week continues this Saturday, Sept. 6, against Colorado State (6 p.m., B1G+). The two teams met last season in Fort Collins, Colo., a four-set victory for the Ducks. It will be the first meeting between the two in Eugene, and fourth overall.
