Sunday Sweep Caps 3-0 Weekend
08/31/25 | Women's Volleyball
Oregon hosts Portland in its home opener Wednesday (6 p.m., B1G+) at Matthew Knight Arena.
BOZEMAN, Mont. — The Oregon volleyball team moved to 3-0 this season with Sunday's straight-set win over weekend host Montana State (25-23, 25-14, 25-23) at Shroyer Gymnasium. Freshmen Maria Tabacuks and Alanah Clemente combined for 27 kills while Iva Sucurovic led all players with 12 blocks.
Tabacuks finished the afternoon with a match-high 14 kills while hitting .357 in the sweep. In her first start, Clemente put down 13 kills (.647 hitting pct.) on 17 swings. Both freshmen pins had six blocks in the sweep.
The 12 total blocks for Sucurovic are the most by an Oregon player since Ronika Stone—also with 12 blocks—in 2018. The Ducks finished the match with 16.0 total team blocks. Freshman middle Holley McFadden contributed four blocks of her own. Oregon held MSU to a .109 hitting percentage.
How It Happened: Montana State (1-2) shook off a quick start by Oregon and fought its way to a 22-20 lead in the opening set. The Ducks answered with a Tabacuks kill and Clemente-Sucurovic block to even things on the scoreboard. The home team regained the lead on the ensuing rally but Oregon ended the frame on a three-point surge including two kills from Clemente.
The Mission Hills, Calif., native had six kills on seven swings in the first set.
Oregon carried the momentum into the next set with an early 8-3 advantage. With the help of a four-point push, the lead grew to 20-12 on a kill by Sucurovic. Like she did in the first, Clemente took over down the stretch with a hand in each of the team's last four points—two kills and two blocks, both in tandem with McFadden.
Trying to avoid the sweep, Montana State won the first five points of the third set and took its largest lead of the third at 12-7. The Ducks began to chip away and pulled even at 14-all with the help of an MSU attack error. From that point, the score was tied six more times, lastly at 23-all. A service error by the Bobcats gave Oregon match point, and on the next rally, another MSU attack error sealed the win for the Ducks.
Sucurovic and Tabacuks teamed up for three blocks late in the set for a 23-21 lead. Tabacuks had four kills in the third set. Valentina Vaulet had three of her seven kills and an ace in the final frame to help secure the sweep.
Notable: Program win No. 998 … first meeting between Oregon and Montana State since 1989.
Up Next: Oregon plays at home twice next week, beginning Wednesday, Sept. 3, against Portland. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. inside Matthew Knight Arena. Click HERE to purchase individual match and season tickets.
