Ducks Survive And Advance Saturday Night

Oregon beat Weber State in an elimination game to move on to the regional final Sunday at Jane Sanders Stadium.
EUGENE, Ore. — They're not in the driver's seat, but Oregon can retake the wheel in the Eugene Regional on Sunday.
The Ducks (49-8) bounced back from a loss earlier in the day by beating Weber State in an NCAA Regional elimination game at Jane Sanders Stadium on Saturday night, 9-1. Oregon's earlier loss to Stanford put the Cardinal in command of the regional, but the Ducks will look to knock them off twice Sunday and advance to Super Regionals.
"I love how we answered back," UO coach Melyssa Lombardi said. "First game was a tough game. … It's about continuing on the road and continuing to fight. I love what these guys did and I'm looking forward to tomorrow."
Kedre Luschar was 3-for-5 with a homer and four RBIs on Saturday night, Kai Luschar scored three times from the leadoff spot in the order and Paige Sinicki had two extra-base hits. Freshman Kaylynn Jones had three hits on the night to give her four across the two games Saturday, while Elise Sokolsky (16-4) bounced back from a loss in the opener with six shutout innings in relief of Lyndsey Grein against the Wildcats.
"We're at a point where it's survive and advance," said Sokolsky, who struck out four and allowed just one hit across her six innings. "It doesn't really matter what it looks like; it's just about getting the job done. That's what my mentality was."

The Ducks moved on to face the Cardinal with their season on the line Sunday at 3:30 p.m. Stanford would advance with a win, while Oregon would force a deciding seventh game of the regional by winning.
How It Happened: The Ducks wasted no time getting on the board, as the designated visiting team Saturday night. Kai Luschar walked and stole second to open the game, then came home on an RBI single by Kedre Luschar for a 1-0 lead.
Back-to-back one-out doubles by Weber State in the bottom of the first tied it. But the Wildcats would manage just one more hit the rest of the way.
Jones singled with one out in the second, and Katie Flannery followed with a two-run homer. That gave Oregon a 3-1 lead, and the Ducks continued to pull away the rest of the game.
After leaving the bases loaded in the third, Oregon was more efficient in the fourth. Kai Luschar again walked and stole second, and she scored on a double by Paige Sinicki. Rylee McCoy then doubled home Sinicki, and Kedre Luschar blasted a homer to center field to cap a four-run inning and put the Ducks up 7-1.

The sister act was at it yet again in the fifth, when Kai Luschar led off with a single, moved up two bases on two outs in the infield and scored on a double by Kedre Luschar.
"I think it's cool it just so happens she's on base a lot and I'm up to bat," Kedre Luschar said. "It's pretty cool to have that opportunity."
The Ducks added on again in the seventh, when Sinicki led off with a triple and scored on a groundball out by McCoy. Sinicki's triple was Oregon's 15th hit of the night, a program record for an NCAA Tournament game.
Notable: Kai Luschar's two steals gave her 57 on the second, two shy of the Big Ten single-season record. … Kedre Luschar's fifth-inning double was her 16th of he season, tied for fourth in UO history. … The Ducks had previously amassed 14 hits in an NCAA Tournament game four times, most recently in 2018.
Up Next: Oregon faces Stanford on Sunday (3:30 p.m., ESPN+), looking to force a winner-take-all regional final at 6 p.m.
