EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon beach volleyball team will play third-ranked Stanford in Wednesday's first round of the inaugural MPSF Beach Volleyball Championship in Huntington Beach, Calif. The dual is set for an 11 a.m. first serve on B1G+.
Â
The MPSF Championship is a double-elimination tournament that will play out over three days with the winning team earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Oregon, the No. 7 seed, is 8-18 going into play while Stanford is 27-8 this season to earn the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament.
Â
Wednesday, April 23 – Day One Schedule
Match 1 – 9:30 a.m. – (3) USC vs (6) Washington
Match 2 – 11 a.m. – (2) Stanford vs (7) Oregon
Match 3 – 12:30 p.m. – (4) California vs (5) Grand Canyon
Match 4 – 2 p.m. – TBD
Â
Oregon and Stanford met earlier this season at the MPSF Mid-Season Rumble on the Cardinal's home court. Stanford swept that meeting (March 7). This will be the second time the two programs play in a conference tournament, having previously met at the 2019 Pac-12 Championship.
Â
The Ducks go into the tournament after a 3-2 week that included a road win at Portland and wins over Hope International at the Pepperdine Duals. The team suffered a narrow 3-2 loss to the weekend host with the dual coming down to a three setter at No. 3 pairs.
Â
At the top of the UO lineup, the team of Bella Gamache and Ella Tyus are 10-15 this year. The team of Natasha George and Liz Rossi also have 10 wins this season playing between lineup spots 3, 4 and 5.
Â
Individually, Tyus is tied for second in program history with 43 career victories; two shy of the school record. George (33 wins) and Daley McClellan (24) enter the week ranked fourth and eighth in school history, respectively. Â
