Ducks Sit in 11th After Opening Round at Western Intercollegiate

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The Oregon men's golf team opened play at the 78th Western Intercollegiate presented by Titleist with an 8-over 358 on Monday.
The Ducks sat 4-under at the turn but struggled on the back nine at Pasatiempo Golf Club, as just two of the seven UO golfers in the field finished par or better in the last nine holes. Oregon carded ten birdies and two eagles on the front compared to five birdies on the back.
Individually, Jeffrey Kwak and Jay Gould-Healy led the Ducks in scoring with an even-par 70. The two are tied for 27th, five shots behind the three leaders.
"I'm hoping for a nice bounce back tomorrow and hopefully get myself back into contention," Kwak said. "Anything that will give me a chance to win this event."
How It Happened
Kwak started his round with five pars before bogeying the sixth hole. He responded well with an eagle on the par-five ninth to sit 1-under at the turn. The sophomore carded a birdie and two bogeys on the back to finish even.
Gabriel Hari also eagled No. 9 and sat at 1-over at the turn. He finished his round with a 1-over 71 after carding to birdies and two bogeys on the back
Aiden Krafft and Ramil Saelim each finished Monday's round 2 over. Saelim made a double bogey on No. 4 but responded well with birdies on 6, 8 and 9 before carding three bogeys on the back nine. Krafft carded a team-high five birdies on the day to go with three bogeys and a pair of double bogeys.
Greyson Leach rounded out the counting scores with a 4-over 74, posting three birdies for the round. Jay Gould-Healy, competing as an individual, finished even par with five birdies and five bogeys.
