03/25/25 | Women's Golf
FORT WORTH, Texas. - The Oregon women's golf team placed second at the Charles Schwab Women's Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday at Colonial Country Club, earning a top-two finish for the fourth time in four spring tournaments and the sixth time so far in 2024-25.
The No. 3 Ducks shot a 2-over 282 in the final round to end the week at 2-over par, finishing two strokes back of top-ranked Stanford for the team title. Oregon entered Tuesday's action tied for the lead with No. 9 Wake Forest, which ended up tying with No. 19 Auburn for third at 6 over.
"Our team continues to put together strong performances week in and week out," head coach Derek Radley said. "They are putting in the work back in Eugene and it is translating when we get out here in competitive settings. There was a postseason feel out here this week with all of the talented teams in this field, and I thought our players handled themselves extremely well."
Sophomore Kiara Romero finished as the individual runner-up at 8-under par, one stroke back of Auburn's Anna Davis for medalist honors. Romero fired a 3-under 67 in the final round, her third sub-70 performance of the week and 10th in her last 11 rounds.
"Kiara is just so rock solid every time she goes out there," Radley said. "She is so reliable for us and always has a great plan for how she is going to attack every hole. She is without a doubt one of the elite players in the nation and we are very fortunate to have her leading this team."
How it Happened: The Ducks were 1-under par through the turn on Tuesday, holding in a tie with Wake Forest for the lead. The back nine brought more adversity as Oregon's counting scorers made seven birdies but also eight bogeys and a double, falling behind Stanford as the Cardinal shot 3 under across their final nine holes to claim the win.
Romero shot 2-under par on the front nine and was bogey-free at the turn, sitting in a tie for the individual lead. She made bogey on hole No. 10, but bounced back with consecutive birdies at No. 11 and No. 12 before shooting even par the rest of the way. The sophomore finished one stroke behind Davis, her good friend, who fired a 6-under 64 without a bogey in the final round.
Romero earned her third runner-up showing of the spring and fourth of the season, and has now placed in the top 10 in six of eight tournaments in 2024-25. The 2023-24 first-team all-American has shot under 70 in 10 of 12 rounds this spring, lowering her team-best scoring average to 70.23.
Sophomore Karen Tsuru notched her third straight top-10 finish and fourth of the season, tying for sixth overall at 2-under par. She saw her streak of sub-70 rounds end at nine after a 1-over 71 in the final round, matching Romero for the team lead with five birdies but also making four bogeys and a double.
Freshman Tong An had her best round of the week with a 1-over 71, including a 2-under 33 on the front nine. Freshman Suvichaya Vinijchaitham rounded out the counting scores with a 3-over 73.
