Balanced Ducks Hold Off Army
11/16/25 | Women's Basketball
The UO women had five players score in double figures Sunday at Matthew Knight Arena.
EUGENE, Ore. — In a battle of Oregon's size against Army's long-range shooting, bigger was better Sunday afternoon.
The UO women's basketball team scored 42 points in the paint, and also forced 24 turnovers that led to 30 points as the Ducks knocked off the Black Knights, 80-55 at Matthew Knight Arena. Oregon now heads on the road for the first time, Wednesday at Washington State, after improving to 4-0 on Sunday.
"I really thought we played a good basketball game," UO coach Kelly Graves said. "Army's a good team; they've got a chance, I think, to win that Patriot League. … Defensively I thought we were a little weaker than we were offensively, but offensively tonight I thought we were on point. We executed when we needed to."
Mia Jacobs had 17 points to lead the Ducks in scoring for the third time in four games, but she had plenty of help Sunday. Jacobs and Katie Fiso provided more than half of Oregon's scoring Tuesday against Grand Canyon, but on Sunday they were two of five Ducks in double figures, as the UO women shot 56.1 percent as a team.

Fiso finished with her third double-double already this season, 12 points with 10 assists. Sofia Bell and Amina Muhammad each scored 14, and Sarah Rambus had 12 to help the Ducks counter an Army offense that fired up 24 three-pointers. The Ducks also got a well-rounded contribution from Ari Long, who matched Jacobs to lead the team with five rebounds, added four assists and also tied for the UO lead with three of the Ducks' 12 steals.
"We turned a really disciplined team over 24 times," Graves said. "We gave up some shots I wish we wouldn't have; we weren't always solid. But you know, we're creating some things."
How It Happened: The Ducks set the tone early, with Fiso driving and dishing to Rambus for the game's first basket. Fiso ended up scoring or assisting on six of Oregon's seven field goals in the opening period, after which the Ducks led 14-6.
Army didn't score until the 3:45 mark of the first quarter, and missed its first seven three-point attempts before making one in the second that cut Oregon's lead to 24-16. The Black Knights ultimately got as close as seven in the second, 32-25, but Bell got the lead back to double digits for the Ducks with her first of four three-pointers in the game.
"I got some open looks, which is nice," Bell said. "Katie and Ari did a good job driving to the post, and my defender helped. So I was kind of wide open, which was good creation by them."
Rambus and Muhammad combined for 10 points in the third, as Oregon built a 54-42 lead with one quarter to play. Muhammad ended up making 6-of-7 shots on the day, helping the Ducks to their big advantage in the paint.
"In practice we were focusing more on getting the ball inside — guards passing it to us, and us getting good position," Muhammad said. "We've been working on it, and we put it to use."
It was 64-49 in the fourth when Oregon scored eight straight, including a pair of threes by Bell. That sparked a 14-2 capped by a Muhammad basket that gave the Ducks their biggest lead of the night, 78-51.
"We finished the game right," Graves said. "I thought we had a lot of players come in and do well."

Notable: Program alum Sabrina Ionescu participated in a halftime free-throw shooting contest, in disguise for the Amazon Prime series "Eli Manning Presents: The Undercovers." … Freshman wing Sara Barhoum joined Elisa Mevius and Sammie Wagner on the Ducks' list of players designated as out for the game. … Army's roster included guard Reese Ericson, a senior from Lake Oswego.
