Ducks Take on NCAA West Regional

The top-two teams at Friday’s regional meet secure automatic bids into the national meet.
EUGENE, Ore. – The Ducks' postseason continues Friday with the NCAA West Region Championships at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento, Calif. The women's 6K will go off at 9 a.m. PT followed an hour later by the men's 10K—their first of the season—at 10 a.m. The top-two teams in each race earn an automatic bid into the 2025 NCAA Championships (Nov. 22) in Columbia, Mo.
The entire field, complete with at-large selections, will be announced later in the weekend.
Oregon Entries
Men: Benjamin Balazs, Simeon Birnbaum, Evan Bishop, Connor Burns, Tayson Echohawk, Abdel Laadjel, Jack Meier, Michael Mireles, Aiden Smith
Women: Silan Ayyildiz, Mia Barnett, Diana Cherotich, Juliet Cherubet, Katie Clute, Dalia Frias, Ali Ince, Allura Markow, Anika Thompson
Collectively, Oregon returns five all-region performers from a season ago with Ayyildiz, Birnbaum, Ince, Smith and Thompson. All-region accolades are awarded to those with top-25 finishes in the respective races. The Ducks also added two all-region transfers from 2024 in Cherubet (2nd, Mountain, Texas Tech) and Mireles (21st, West, UCLA).

The UO men are up three spots to a season-high No. 7 national ranking on the heels of the winning the Big Ten title, and have now been part of the USTFCCCA top 10 in four of six weeks. In the women's poll, the Ducks are the fourth-ranked team for a fourth-consecutive week.
Overall, the Ducks have won 21 team titles—12 women, nine men—at the regional meet. The Women of Oregon are the reigning NCAA West region champions. Individually, the teams have combined for 21 titles—11 men, 10 men—spread among 13 runners.

The Men of Oregon were the regional runner-up a season ago, just two points behind Washington, the 2024 NCAA West champion.
This year is the sixth time Haggin Oaks GC will serve as host for the NCAA West Regional. The meet was previous held at the Sacramento course in 2013, 2016, 2018, 2021 and 2023. Jessica Hull (19:22.5, 2018) and Elliott Cook (29:22.7, 2023) have the 10th-fastest times ever run on the course. Haggin Oaks GC has also served as the host site for the NCAA Division II Championships in 2019 and 2024.
Last Time Out
The Men and Women of Oregon swept the 2025 Big Ten Championships (Oct. 31) in East Lansing, Mich. Additionally, Laadjel and Cherotich swept the individual titles. The victory was the first conference title for the UO men since 2008 while the UO women set a new conference meet scoring record of 18 points to secure their second-consecutive Big Ten crown. In recognition of her team's effort, Shalane Flanagan was voted the 2025 Big Ten Women's Coach of the Year for a second time in as many years.
