Second Round of B1G Play Opens With Loss
10/31/25 | Women's Volleyball
Oregon dropped a match at Washington in three sets Friday.
SEATTLE — A tough stretch of conference play to close out the regular season began for the Oregon volleyball team with a three-set loss at Washington on Friday.
The Ducks (13-8, 4-7 Big Ten) were in Seattle to open the second 10-match round of conference play, in which the UO women are on the road for six of those. That included Friday, when the Huskies swept the Ducks, 25-22, 25-19, 25-16, three weeks after a three-set win in Eugene.
Alanah Clemente and Valentina Vaulet each had 10 kills to lead the Ducks, and Sophia Meyers had nine. But nobody else had more than one as Oregon hit .117 for the match, while UW hit .372 across the three sets.
How It Happened: Clemente had eight kills and hit .438 in the opening set, helping the Ducks hit .243 as a team. But Washington hit .345 to take the lead in the match. Oregon cut into an early UW lead when a kill by Vaulet and an ace for Iva Sucurovic got the UO women within 7-6. But the Huskies scored six of the next seven to open up a 13-7 lead, and led by as much as seven at 20-13. Another kill by Vaulet and two by Clemente sparked an Oregon run as the Ducks eventually closed within 22-21. But UW scored three of the last four to clinch the set.
Washington's block was a significant factor in set two. The Huskies had four blocks in the set, and in an effort to avoid the block Oregon's hitters struggled to keep the ball in play as the Ducks hit minus-.083. The UO women did have a 4-0 run that included a kill and two aces by Clemente for an 8-5 lead. But with Oregon up 10-8, UW scored eight of the next 10 to flip momentum. Back-to-back kills by Meyers got the Ducks within 18-17. But UW clinched the set by scoring six of the last seven, including two blocks and three UO hitting errors.
The Ducks bounced back a bit to hit .200 in the third set, but the Huskies committed just a single attack error to hit .562. With the set tied at 4-4, Washington scored four straight to open up a lead. Consecutive kills by Meyers got Oregon within 13-12, but UW scored eight of the next nine, including four of Kierstyn Barton's match-high 15 kills. The UO women did fight off one match point on a kill by Vaulet, but UW ultimately finished off the sweep.
