Ducks Remain Unbeaten
01/26/25 | Women's Tennis
EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Oregon women's tennis team remained unbeaten to begin the spring season, as the Ducks took down Long Beach State 5-2 on Sunday at the Student Tennis Center.
The Ducks top doubles team remained also undefeated in dual play, as Patsy Daughters and Karin Young took care of LBSU's top duo 6-2. Their fourth doubles win of the spring sealed the doubles point after Tilde Jagare and Juliet Santitto won 6-0 on court three.
Oregon went on to win the first three singles matches, all in straight sets, to clinch the four points needed for the team victory.
The Ducks' second point of the day and first singles point came from Jagare, who competed against her younger sister Thea, who is a freshman at Long Beach State. The older sister came away with a 6-2, 6-1 win on court four.
"It's a bit weird since it's not in Sweden and we played each other in Sweden. I didn't think I'd go to the US and play her here," Jagare said of playing her sister. "Just the start of the match is a little bit awkward because I hadn't seen her since Christmas and then I'm supposed to go in and be super competitive. That was definitely something that was difficult, but once you start playing you get into the mindset that it's a competitive match."

The win pushed Jagare's spring singles record to 4-0, split between Nos. 4 and 5.
Young, a senior playing at the No. 2 spot, improved to 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 win, while also giving UO a commanding 3-0 lead in the team race. Her doubles partner Daughters grabbed the deciding fourth point on court three, winning 6-3, 6-1.
Daughters pushed her singles winning streak to seven matches, going back to the fall season. The freshman from Eugene who was tabbed Big Ten Freshman of the Week, is 4-0 from the No. 3 spot in the Ducks' lineup.
Fellow freshman Avery Jennings capped the day with a three-set win on court six for her first collegiate victory. After splitting the first two sets, 6-4, 5-7, Jennings outlasted Daisy Carpenter in a third-set tiebreak 10-8.

LBSU tallied its two points with third-set tiebreaks at Nos. 1 and 5 after the match was already clinched.
Through four spring matches, Oregon's doubles teams are a combined 9-1, while boasting a 16-2 singles mark.
The Ducks return to the Student Tennis Center next weekend to host Portland on Saturday (1:30 p.m.) and Texas Tech Sunday (10 a.m.).
