Thompson, Barnett Go 1-2 at Pre’s Trail

The No. 4 Women of Oregon got their season started with a win on Pre's Trail.
EUGENE, Ore. – Anika Thompson and Mia Barnett finished 1-2 Friday evening at the Pre's Trail Run, the season-opening competition for the fourth-ranked Women of Oregon. In the dual team race, the Ducks topped Oregon State.
Thompson, an all-region performer last season, clocked a 5K time of 16:53.9 with Barnett dipping under 17 minutes (16:59.1) for the Ducks' second finisher. The top-five lineup was rounded out by Ella Nelson, Samantha McDonnell and Harper McClain in eighth through 10th, respectively.
Nelson posted a time of 17:30.8 followed by McDonnell in 17:37.7 and McClain in 17:39.3 on the Alton Baker course.
The freshman trio of Ella Thorsett, Lily Cridge and Hannah Seubert also made their cross country debuts.
The Ducks return to action in three weeks with the women running at the Nuttycombe Invitational (Sep. 27) in Madison, Wis., and the men at the Cowboy Jamboree (Sep. 28) in Stillwater, Okla.
