Leach Paces Ducks at Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational
09/30/24 | Men's Golf
FORT WORTH, Texas – Greyson Leach continued his consistent start to his senior campaign, going 70-72 in the first two rounds of the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country Club on Monday.
Leach is eyeing his third top-20 finish in as many tournaments to start the fall, sitting T19 after 26 holes in Texas. The senior opened the year with a T6 finish at the Sahalee Players Championship before finishing T19 a week ago at The Tindall. Leach leads the Ducks with a 70.88 scoring average so far this season, and his performance on Monday moves him into sixth in program history with a 71.92 career average.
The Ducks were in eighth place after 18 holes with a 5-over 285, but slipped four spots on the leaderboard following a second-round 294 and trail Alabama and Vanderbilt by one stroke for a spot in the top 10. Oklahoma leads the way heading into Tuesday's finale at 9-under, followed by Texas (-7), Auburn (-4) and North Carolina (-2). UNC's David Ford and Texas' Daniel Bennett are tied atop the individual leaderboard at 6-under.
How It Happened
After two pars to start the day, Leach birdied the par-4 third before bogeying the fourth hole. He then rattled off 14 pars in a row to finish the first round with an even-par 70. He ran into some trouble on the front nine in round two, but played the back nine 2-under with a pair of birdies to finish 2-over for the round.
Jay Gould-Healy, Aiden Krafft and Eric Doyle all put together strong rounds to open play. Gould-Healy shot a 1-over 71 in his season debut in the lineup that included two birdies, a bogey and a double bogey. Krafft also tallied a pair of birdies in the opening round, but two bogeys and a double brought him back to 2-over. Doyle led all Ducks with three birdies in the first 18 holes, but five bogeys led to a 2-over 72 finish as well.
After starting the second round on the second hole, Doyle opened with eight consecutive pars. Two birdies on the back nine helped him finish with his second 72 of the day, and he will enter Tuesday's final round in 34th place. Gould-Healy finished his second round with a 4-over 74 to sit T39. Krafft shot a 76 to wrap his day after three bogeys and a triple on the par-5 ninth, though he did finish his round strong with a birdie on No. 18.
Gabriel Hari also made his season debut in the Oregon lineup, finishing 79-76.
