NCAA Championships Begin Wednesday at Hayward Field

EUGENE, Ore. – The 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships begin Wednesday afternoon at Hayward Field. The Ducks take 20 national qualifiers into to meet which begins with the men's competition on day one. Rafael Raap will the first Oregon athlete in action when the decathlon starts at 12:30 p.m.

Outside of the ESPN television schedule, there will be specific ESPN+ links for all field events and multis. Day one coverage on ESPN2 begins at 4:30 p.m. and will feature four other UO men including the trio of Elliott Cook, Rheinhardt Harrison and Tomas Palfrey in the 1500 meters. PJ Ize-Iyamu will be making his individual debut at the NCAA meet in the 100 meters.

The women's competition begins Thursday. The Women of Oregon enter the meet with 15 qualifiers, up one with this week's addition of Annika Williams in the heptathlon. Overall, the UO women have entries in 13 events and will have two scoring opportunities Thursday with Jaida Ross in the shot put and Shelby Moran in the hammer.

Silan Ayyildiz
5,000 Meters
Second appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships; first at Oregon...moved to No. 2 on Oregon's top-10 at 5,000 meters with 15:15.84 performance at the Bryan Clay Invitational (April 12); also the No. 12 outdoor performer in collegiate history…runner-up in the 1500 meters at the Pac-12 Championships; ninth in the 5,000…ran a lifetime best of 4:09.34 in the WACT 1500 meters at Drake Relays; third overall and top collegian in the field…final national qualifier out of the regional round.

Second appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships; first at Oregon…ran a season-best 4:13.10 in the opening heats of the NCAA West Preliminary…finished in fifth place over 1500 meters at the Pac-12 Championships…entered the postseason with a best of 4:15.81 from the OSU High Performance meet in late April…ran 2:07.83 for 800 meters at the Oregon Twilight (May 3)…one of two UO women entered in the 1500 meters, alongside Klaudia Kazimierska.

Taylor Chocek
Heptathlon
Second appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships…runner-up in the heptathlon at the Pac-12 Championships with a season-best 5,741 points; 52 points off her lifetime best from the 2023 Pac-12 meet…established bests in the 100 hurdles (13.58) and long jump (5.97/19-7) during the conference meet…already fourth in UO history in the heptathlon (5,793 points), cracked the top 10 in the hurdles with time from the Pac-12 Championships…ran a personal best of 24.37 at 200 meters at the Mt. SAC Relays…one of two UO women entered in the heptathlon, along with Annika Williams.

Katie Clute
3,000m Steeplechase
First appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships…Pac-12 runner-up in the steeplechase, doubled back the following day to finish sixth in the 5,000 meters…became the fifth UO woman to run under 10 minutes in the event…in second steeplechase of her career, clocked a personal best of 9:59.06 at Bryan Clay (April 11); ran an unattached 10:18.25—fall at final water jump—three weeks prior at the Oregon Preview (March 22)…owns season bests of 4:27.07 in the 1500 and 16:01.63 for 5,000 meters.

Elliott Cook
1500 Meters
Second appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships…swept the 800 and 1500 meters at the Pac-12 Championships in Boulder, Colo.; first man in the conference to do so since Bernard Lagat in 1998…ran a season's best of 3:38.55 at the Bryan Clay Invitational (April 13), just off lifetime best of 3:38.12 from the 2023 USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix…ran an outdoor best of 1:47.01 for 800 meters at the Oregon Relays (April 20); runner-up behind Josh Kerr, the 2023 world champion at 1500 meters…joined in the #NCAATF 1500 by teammates Rheinhardt Harrision and Tomas Palfrey.

400m Hurdles
Second appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships…broke her own school record with a time of 56.24 in quarterfinal round of the NCAA West Preliminary…also part of qualifying efforts for the Ducks' 4x100 and 4x400 relays…Pac-12 champion with the 4x400 relay; lead-off leg for quartet that ran meet-record 3:27.34, good for T-No. 4 in UO history…also Pac-12 runner-up with the 4x100 relay and sixth in the 400 hurdles (57.11)…posted a time of 56.33 to win the 400 hurdles at the Desert Heat Classic (April 27).

Annika Williams
Heptathlon
Second appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships; first at Oregon…finished fourth at the Pac-12 Championships with a lifetime-best score of 5,542 points, good for No. 5 in program history…established a personal best of 48.40m/158-9 in the javelin during the Pac-12 heptathlon competition; NCAA West Preliminary qualifier…season best of 6.10m/20-0.25 in the long jump at the conference meet…originally missed NCAA Championships by one spot; into the meet with a scratch ahead of her in national rankings.
