04/05/24 | Track and Field
Friday marked the beginning of a three-meet weekend for the Ducks.
Updated (4/5) to include discus results.
LA JOLLA, Calif. – Shelby Moran won the hammer Friday afternoon at the Triton Invitational, improving to 3-for-3 this season in her signature event. Later, Moran and Jaida Ross posted top-10 finishes in the elite section of the discus.
Â
In winning the hammer, Moran recorded a day's best of 65.31m/214-3 to claim the top spot over past UO standout Jillian Weir. Trailing Weir through four rounds, Moran got the implement out to the first-place measure on her fifth attempt. The Sherwood, Ore., native ranks fourth in the NCAA with a 2024 best of 66.62m/218-7 from the Oregon Preview (March 22).
Â
Ross and Moran finished fourth and fifth, respectively, among collegians in the discus, good for sixth and seventh overall. Ross, already the No. 3 performer in program history, established a lifetime best with a 58.31m/191-3 effort in the fourth round. She had three marks Friday beyond her previous best.
Â
Moran moved from 10th to eighth on the program's top-10 list with her 54.28m/178-1, also good for a new personal best as a collegian.
Â
Ross and Mason Strunk will be in action Saturday in the shot put and hammer, respectively.
