Luschar Sisters Spark Ducks
03/23/24 | Softball
EUGENE, Ore. – Pinch-hitter Kedre Luschar hit a go-ahead triple in the fourth inning and Kai Luschar followed with a base hit that scored her sister as No. 22 Oregon took game two with Arizona State, 6-4, Saturday at Jane Sanders Stadium.
After the Sun Devils closed to within a run, 5-4, in the top of the sixth inning, Morgan Scott came in and got the final four outs of the game to record her first save of the season for the Ducks, who climbed into a tie for second place in the Pac-12 with No. 8 Washington at 6-2 (18-10 overall). The win also gave Oregon its third series win if the season in as many tries.
"Kedre has great power and has been swinging the bat well," said head coach Melyssa Lombardi. "We have been telling her to be ready because she'll get an opportunity at a key moment.
"Seeing her come in and drive that run in, that's what Kedre can do," said Lombardi. "She is very strong. She has the power and has good plate coverage."
How it Happened: For the second straight game, ASU (17-13, 2-6) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Jordyn VanHook's two-out home run to right center field did the damage.
Oregon answered with a run in the bottom of the frame. Kai Luschar led off with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Ariel Carlson's single moved Luschar to third. An out later, Alyssa Daniell flied out to center field, scoring Luschar on the sacrifice fly to cut ASU's lead to 2-1.
The Ducks moved ahead with a four-run fourth.
Daniell led off with a double into right center and moved to third on Emma Kauf's ground out. KK Humphreys' single to center tied the game at 2-2.
Katie Flannery followed with a double that gave the Ducks runners at second and third. Kedre Luschar was called on to pinch hit for Paige Sinicki and she drove a 1-1 pitch to the wall in left center for a triple that scored both runners and gave Oregon a 4-2 lead.
An out later, Kai Luschar laced a single up the middle to bring Kedre Luschar home with what would ultimately prove to be the deciding run.
"In the fourth inning, we had eight hitters come up to the plate and watched Kedre come up and clutch up with two RBIs," said Lombardi. "Then getting to watch her sister drive her in was amazing."
After ASU hit a two-run home run in the top of the sixth that cut the Ducks' lead to 5-4, Oregon added an insurance run without a hit in the bottom of the inning. With one out, Flannery was hit by a pitch and Braiesey Rosa pinch ran. Sinicki bunted Rosa into scoring position. Hanna Delgado then hit a chopper that the shortstop couldn't handle and Rosa scored from second on the error with the Ducks' sixth run of the game.

Elise Sokolsky battled through five innings to pick up her fourth straight win against no losses on the season. She struck out a season-high eight before tiring in the fifth.
"I thought Elise pitched a really good game," said Lombardi. "You could see when she was really in control of what she was doing. You could see the rise in her change-up and her other pitches worked well together."
Taylour Spencer relieved with the Ducks holding a one-run lead. She got two outs, but also hit a batter and walked a batter.
Scott was then called upon with two runners on and two out and got Tanya Windle to hit a grounder to the left side that Sinicki fielded and then sprinted to the bag at third for the force out to end the threat.
In the top of the seventh, the Sun Devils' lead-off batter reached on an error, but Scott retired the next three hitters to earn the save.

OF Kai Luschar on driving in her sister Kedre
"It was just awesome. Playing with my sister is amazing. We are best friends and we get to be there for each other, and it helps a lot being athletes."
OF Kedre Luschar on her triple
"I feel like I blacked out running from second to third base. I just saw coach (Sam) Marder sending me (to third)."
Noteworthy: Kai Luschar led the Ducks with two hits, including her third career triple … Carlson stole her 10th base of the season … Kauf's hitting streak ended at seven games … Oregon has won five straight against ASU for the first time since 2017-18 … Scott had a win and two saves last season versus ASU; so far this series, she has a win and a save … the save was the eighth of Scott's career, which ranks fifth on the UO career list.
