Outdoor Season Begins at PNW Invite
03/15/24 | Track and Field
The Ducks' season-opening meet begins at 10 a.m. in Corvallis.
EUGENE, Ore. – One week before its home opener, the Oregon track and field team officially starts its outdoor season Saturday at the OSU PNW Invite in Corvallis. The Ducks are sending a small contingent focusing on field events.
School-record holder in the hammer and reigning Pac-12 champion Shelby Moran is slated to compete twice Saturday, first in her signature event at 11 a.m. She is a three-time NCAA qualifier in the hammer and finished ninth last year in her first season in Eugene. Moran is also entered in the discus which will begin at 12:45 p.m.
Fellow UO top-10 performer Kohana Nakato is scheduled to make her season debut in the javelin. She will throw in the second of two flights and enters with the top seed mark. Nakato posted her collegiate PB of 51.28m/168-3 at last year's Pac-12 Championships. The women's javelin starts at 2:15 p.m.
In the men's javelin, transfers Gavin Korkeakoski and Zach Young and freshman Austin Milton are set to make their debuts in an Oregon kit. Korkeakoski and Young began their respective collegiate careers at Colorado Mesa and Linfield, respectively. Milton prepped at Sherwood HS where he was the Oregon 6A state and American JavFest champion as a senior.
The men's javelin is scheduled to start at 4:25 p.m.
The meet kicks off with the men's pole vault—and UO junior J Kai Yamafuji—at 10 a.m. The women's pole vault will follow with a field that includes Isabella Nilsen. The Bellevue, Wash., native capped her indoor season with a lifetime-best clearance of 4.14m/13-7 at the Ken Shannon Last Chance (Feb. 24).
The Ducks host the Oregon Preview (March 22-23) next weekend at Hayward Field.
