
Ducks Pick Up First Ranked Win of the Season

LAS VEGAS – The Oregon Ducks picked up their first ranked win of the season on Tuesday, defeating the NO. 20 ranked Texas A&M Aggies 80-70 in Las Vegas.
Oregon took control in the second half behind two separate runs of 10 or more points, capped with a 16-0 run that saw the Ducks go from 10 points down to six points up with six minutes to play. T.J. Bamba paced the Ducks with 18 points, including 10 made free throws. The Ducks also took advantage of pace of play, outscoring the Aggies 20-8 in points off turnovers and 34-22 in fast break points.
How It Happened: Oregon struggled from the field in the first half but held Texas A&M to 38 percent shooting to keep the Aggies lead to three points at the break. A&M got out to an early lead after consecutive three pointers, before Jackson Shelstad cut the lead down to 8-5. The Ducks tied things up at 13 after Jadrian Tracey hit two threes in a row. The Aggies responded with fast break points to take back the lead. Freshman Jamari Phillips checked into the game at the seven-minute mark and hit his first shot attempt, a three pointer to cut into the lead. Reserve big man Supreme Cook made his impact felt with free throws and an offensive put-back late in the half.

Texas A&M missed their last shot attempt of the half as the shot clock expired, leaving the Ducks with a three-quarter-court heave from Shelstad that fell short. A&M took a 32-29 lead into the break.

Both teams slowed down from there, trading stops and the occasional basket. Texas A&M then built an eight-point lead with free throws and put backs, continuing to win the points in the paint battle.
With 15:43 to play, Keeshawn Barthelemy hit a free throw that sparked a 16-0 Oregon run. The momentum shifted the way of Oregon with 11 made baskets in a row for the Ducks. UO kept the pressure on defensively, forcing four turnovers during the run. The game remained tied at 70 with 2:21 to play. K.J. Evans hit two free throws that started a 10-0 run that clinched the 80-70 victory.
