No. 11 Ducks Host Northwestern on Senior Day
11/15/24 | Women's Volleyball
Oregon carries an 18-5 overall record and 10-4 Big Ten mark into this week’s matches.
EUGENE, Ore. – The No. 11 Oregon volleyball team hosts Northwestern Friday evening at Matthew Knight Arena. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the match will double as Senior Day for Daley McClellan, Mackenzie Morris, Colby Neal, Onye Ofoegbu and Michelle Ohwobete.
The Ducks will then travel to Los Angeles for Sunday afternoon's top-25 matchup against No. 23 USC. Both weekend contests will be streamed on B1G+.
Series History vs Northwestern
Friday will be just the fifth meeting in the series between the two teams. Oregon and Northwestern met last season during the opening weekend, a 3-0 victory for the Ducks. Mimi Colyer had 16 kills and hit .333 in that match. The teams had last met in 2000 prior to last season's match. The series is tied 2-2.
Series History vs USC
Oregon has won nine of the past 12 matches in the series with USC including a straight-set home win earlier this season. In the recent history, the Ducks have won 13 of 22 going back to 2012 which accounts for more than half of the team's wins in the all-time series (21).
Last Time Out
The Ducks secured a road sweep at No. 14 Minnesota (Nov. 9) with the help of 14.5 total team blocks. Mimi Colyer and Onye Ofoegbu each put down 10 kills in the victory and Oregon hit .327 as a team. The result gave the Ducks their 10th win in Big Ten play and snapped a four-match skid against Minnesota.
Blocking It Out
With its 14.5 total team blocks against Minnesota, Oregon had double-digit blocks for the ninth time this season. Individually, five UO players had at least four blocks including a match-high seven by Onye Ofoegbu. Oregon enters the week third in the Big Ten and seventh in the NCAA with 2.86 blocks per set.
It's a Record
Oregon's match against second-ranked Nebraska (Nov. 7) was played in front of a program record 8,566 fans at Matthew Knight Arena. That figure replaced the previous mark of 7,334 during last season's Oregon-Oregon State match.
Milestone Watch
Senior libero Mackenzie Morris enters the week needing just 21 digs to reach 2,000 in her career between her time at Kansas State (2020-23) and Oregon. She is averaging 3.61 digs per set during Big Ten play and has a season high of 24 digs in the team's five setter at Washington (Oct. 30).
How They Rank
On the heels of their top-15 road win at Minnesota, the Ducks moved up a spot to No. 11 in the most recent AVCA poll. Collectively, Oregon ranks seventh in the NCAA with 2.86 blocks per set and 22nd with its .269 hitting percentage. The Ducks also stand among the top 50 in opponent hitting efficiency (.175).
Welcome to the Flock
To kick off the national signing period, Oregon added the talented trio of Logan Bell (OH/Beech Grove, Ind.), Kenna Cogill (MB/Gilbert, Ariz.) and Izzy Mogridge (S/Lutz, Fla.). Bell is one of five finalist for MaxPreps National Player of the Year, Cogill ranked among the top five in Arizona in hitting efficiency and blocks and Mogridge was invited to play in the Under Armour All-American Game in January.
The Schedule
Including Friday, the Ducks will play just two more home matches during the 2024 regular season. That slate also includes a Nov. 27 meeting with Purdue.
