NCAA Spots Up for Grabs in Washington

The top-two teams at Friday’s regional meet secure automatic bids at the NCAA Championships.
EUGENE, Ore. – The 2024 postseason continues Friday with the NCAA West Region Championships at the Colfax Golf Club in Colfax, Wash. The women's 6K begins at 11 a.m. (PT) while the men's 10K—the first of the season—follows at 12 p.m. The top-two teams in each race earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Championships (Nov. 23) in Madison, Wis.
The entire field, complete with at-large selections, will be announced later in the weekend.

The Ducks return three all-region performers—Cook, Elmore and Thompson—from last year's meet, a designation based on a top-25 finish. It was the second all-region honor for Elmore who now teams up with Ayyildiz who earned all-region accolades a season ago at South Carolina. Additionally, Evan Burke and Evan Dorenkamp bring previous all-region experience from Stanford and Penn State, respectively.

Based on their performances at the Big Ten Championships, the UO men and women vaulted 10 and 15 spots, respectively, in the Nov. 5 release of the USTFCCCA poll.
Stanford swept the men's and women's titles at last year's NCAA West Region in Sacramento.
Overall, the Ducks have collected 20 team titles at the NCAA regional meet, its most recent being a win by the UO women in 2018. Individually, the program has won 21 titles—11 men, 10 women—among 13 runners.

The Women of Oregon posted a 1-2 finish with Ayyildiz and Elmore on their way to winning the Big Ten team title. The Ducks placed their first five inside the top 12 and scored 33 points. In the men's race, the UO men got top-10 finishes from Birnbaum, Cook and Smith and finished third overall.
